Lessons & Instruction

Classes & Workshops:We will be updating these pages regularly as we go along. But for now, our schedule will be as follows: Please call to reserve your spot.

Introduction to Leather Crafting: This class will introduce students to working with leather and the basic use of tools. We will show students the characteristics of leather, the importance of keeping their tools sharp and well maintained and what they need to begin working with leather. No tools are required since it will be more of a demonstration format, so that they can watch.

Beginner Leather Craft: these classes will begin the student’s hands on working with leather and tools. They will learn proper casing techniques, including quick casing and the beginnings of leather stamping and carving. A lot of time will be spent on getting acquainted with the swivel knife. Students need to have the basic tools needed to participate in this class. Most of the instruction will be based on the book, Tech Tips, which that I highly recommend to anyone wanting to start doing leather work.  Students will be encouraged to take work to do at home and bring back so that we can evaluate their progress. We recommend students take this class a few times and work hard at home before going to the intermediate classes.

Intermediate Classes: Here we begin teaching students to measure and start making their own patterns. We will begin learning figure carving, coloring techniques etc. We will continue emphasis on safety and techniques. By this time, the students will have more confidence in themselves and classes will be tailored to questions brought up by the students. Each student must bring in his own tools.

Advance Classes: Here students are encouraged to bring in their projects and work on what they wish. We will only provide supervision and advice. By now the students should pretty much know what they are doing and emphasis will be put on letting them teach and help each other out. Hopefully by then they will be ready to start teaching new students themselves. Since I believe, when you start teaching is when you really start to learn. Each student must bring in his own tools.

Workshops: We will be having special workshops where all participants will be making different leather items. These will be happening in the future once we settle in and get to know our new friends. All I can say for now is that I got me a nice 12 foot gator that’s just waiting to become a bunch of wallets for you guys.
